The Cape Tankwa Karoo

A place of return

Ten private restoration suites on the edge of a quiet watering hole, held within a rewilded Big 5 conservancy two and a half hours beyond Cape Town.

Here, wellness is not a place you walk to. It is the suite itself.

The conservancy and its watering hole beneath the Karoo ranges

Ten thousand hectares

A Big 5 conservancy in the Cape Tankwa Karoo, given back to itself over decades of patient rewilding.

Origins

For generations this land was pushed too hard. Overgrazing and over-farming stripped its indigenous vegetation, and the great animals of the Karoo were hunted out more than 275 years ago.

Through conservation and rewilding it began to come back. Not forced. Simply given room.

Kuganha is built on the same belief: what is true for the land is true for people.

The lodge

Beneath sweeping thatch at the water's edge, the heart of Kuganha gathers its guests around open fire, long tables and the slow turn of the Karoo sky.

Spaces to gather

Thoughtfully designed and never crowded, these spaces invite you to gather, reflect, dine or simply enjoy the rhythm of the landscape together.
